2021 theme: It matters how we open Knowledge: Building Structural Equity
The International Open Access Week committee has announced the 2021 theme for the October 25-31 event: It matters how we open Knowledge: Building Structural Equity.
The theme aligns with the recently released UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science, of which Open Access is a crucial component. SPARC says the recommendation powerfully articulates and centers the importance of equity in pursuing a future for scholarship that is open by default. Open Access Australasia has set up an OA Week planning committee led by Thomas Shafee from La Trobe University which has begun preparations for Australian & New Zealand events.

International Open Access Week is a global event and an opportunity for the academic and research community to continue to learn about the benefits of Open Access, to share what they’ve learned with colleagues, and to help inspire wider participation in making Open Access the new norm in scholarship and research.
