By request in our first meeting we will be looking at rights retention
In response to your feedback in our recent member survey, OAA is launching a new member-only forum.
This exclusive forum is designed for OAA members to come together in a supportive ‘learning circle’ format, fostering meaningful discussions and peer-to-peer knowledge sharing. Our goal is to equip attendees with practical takeaways and strategies that you can apply directly to your daily work in scholarly communication and open scholarship.
Our inaugural session will be held August 26th at 12pm AEST/2pm NZST and is open to member staff seeking guidance, ideas, and peer support around rights retention. Whether you’re new to this issue or looking for proven strategies, this session will offer practical insights from across the community.
Emma McLean and Paula Callan will share experiences from UNSW and QUT and Richard White will offer legal perspectives from Aotearoa.
There will be focused activities in discussion group format facilitated by our speakers and members of the OAA Executive Committee. The aim is to co-create a practical checklist for supporting authors, researchers and support staff which participants will be able to take back and share immediately with their institutions.

Looking ahead, our next forum will be tailored to address current strategic issues facing managers and team leaders amongst our membership. Each quarterly session will blend focused themes with open conversations driven by member priorities. Join us to engage, learn, and contribute to advancing our shared goals in open scholarship in a friendly, interactive environment.
