Welcome!  The new Repositories sub-group is part of the Australian Scholarly Communications Community of Practice, (AuSCCoP) an initiative of Open Access Australasia, CAUL, and Creative Commons Australia.

Institutional, data and subject repositories play a vital role in the academic and research ecosystem.  Where paid open access publishing is not an option, repository-based open access (aka ‘Green open access’) provides the researcher with an alternative route to open access at no cost to themselves or their research budget. They also showcase, curate and preserve research outputs, supporting the institution’s mission of knowledge dissemination and serving as a critical resource for researchers, students, and the broader community.

Repositories subgroup

The Repositories subgroup will provide members with an active, welcoming community of peers willing to share knowledge about day-to-day practice and discuss new developments, strategies and challenges.  It is anticipated that the subgroup will be a worthy replacement of the old CAIRSS email discussion list.

The subgroup meets via Zoom on a bi-monthly basis. Each meeting includes regular updates from other groups plus one or more discussion topics which will be circulated ahead of the meeting. If meeting numbers are large, breakout rooms will be created to facilitate active discussion.  Discussion topics will include:

  • Recent open access policy developments (including advice to Government by the Chief Scientist).
  • Repository statistics (including CAUL stats, IRUS-ANZ and platform-specific)
  • Open access and intellectual property (including Author Rights Retention)
  • Best practice and standards (including preservation)
  • Technology, analytics and infrastructure (including platforms)
  • User engagement, outreach and advocacy
  • Funding and sustainability

Email discussions

Between meetings, there is an active email list via which subgroup members can seek feedback or input from other members. ausccop-repositories@oaaustralasia.org
